Propak 2023 is around the corner, to take place in Cape Town at CTICC from 24th till 26th of October. Propak gathers industry players and other stakeholders around packaging and related industries to explore latest trends, solutions and innovations as well as network.
Nordic Paper and Packaging (Pty) Ltd – NPP, representing various pioneering packaging companies from Nordic and Europe in South Africa, is participating at the expo for the first time with their own stand. With decades of history in graphic papers, NPP has expanded its footprint to sustainable and circular economy solutions from Nordic for fast growing packaging sectors. Some of the long- standing partners are UPM and Walki that are globally recognized for their efforts for sustainability and circular economy as well as zero waste future. For brand owners and converting as well as printing industry they offer all-in-one specifications for various end-uses that comply with strictest environmental and technical requirements.
In the environment where fibre-based solutions are criticized for harvesting of forest and reducing carbon binding forest area, our partners are seeing this differently. UPM has been recently awarded with Platinum in EcoVadis responsibility rating. EcoVadis evaluates performance of globally operating companies in over 175 countries in more than 200 purchasing categories. Platinum score was based on the UPM’s sustainability performance in the following four categories: Environment, Labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. Based on the assessment, only one per cent of the 100,000 global companies received platinum. UPM’s score 87/100 was one of the highest in the manufacture of pulp, paper and paperboard industry. One example of the actions is UPM’s implementation of planting 50million new plants in a year to enable sustainable future.
Packaging highlights from these partners include heat-sealable, no-poly, medium-barrier solutions that are paper-based and fully recyclable in paper streams, called Confidio and Confidio Pro from UPM. Other categories include client-specific solutions such as Opti Seal from Walki which is paper- based barrier paper with end-use and recycling optimised barrier. Various specifications operate as mono materials or high fibre content offering easy and convenient way to shift towards new future.
For the special market segments such as wet strength papers, straws and food trays our partners include names such as Paptic, Dolea, Jospak that has re-invented the recipes or specifications. Paptic has re-invented paper for packaging where normal paper fails but brand owners want to shift away from plastics. Jospak has focus on food trays offering solutions which combines great brand value aspects such as recyclability, technical performance, great print possibilities and high sustainability factors.
We invite you to explore new samples, get the latest knowledge and connect with global leaders to take the next step towards more sustainable packaging.
