Access to Information
The Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA) gives individuals the right to request access to certain records held by public and private bodies where access is required for the exercise or protection of a right.
In accordance with PAIA, Specialised Exhibitions (Pty) Ltd, trading as Montgomery Group Africa, maintains a PAIA Manual that explains how to request access to records held by the company.
The Manual provides information about the records held by Montgomery Group Africa, the process for submitting a request, applicable fees, grounds on which access may be refused, and the remedies available to requesters.
Request Access to Information
A PAIA request is a request for access to a record held by Montgomery Group Africa. It is not a request to obtain the PAIA Manual itself.
Requests for access to records must be made using the prescribed PAIA Form 2: Request for Access to a Record.
When making a request, you will need to provide sufficient information to identify yourself and the record you are requesting, indicate the form of access required, and explain the right you are seeking to exercise or protect and why the requested record is required for that purpose.
If you are making a request on behalf of another person, you will also need to provide proof of the capacity in which you are making the request.
Please note that submitting a request does not automatically guarantee access to a record. Each request is considered in accordance with PAIA, including any applicable grounds for refusal.
What Happens After You Submit a Request?
Once a valid request has been received, it will be considered in accordance with PAIA.
A decision will generally be communicated within 30 days of receiving the request. In circumstances permitted by PAIA, this period may be extended by up to a further 30 days. If an extension is required, the requester will be notified.
Prescribed fees may apply depending on the nature of the request and the access required. A requester seeking access to a record containing their own personal information is not required to pay a request fee.
